Iron ore weak magnetic separation beneficiation process

Iron ore weak magnetic separation beneficiation process

There are many types of iron minerals, but only a dozen or so are used as raw materials for ironmaking, mainly including magnetite, hematite, limonite, specularite, siderite, etc; Common beneficiation methods include magnetic separation, gravity separation, and combined beneficiation.

Magnetic separation is one of the main methods for separating iron ore, divided into strong magnetic separation and weak magnetic separation. Weak magnetic separation is mainly used for separating strong magnetic minerals such as magnetite, while strong magnetic separation is mainly used for recovering weak magnetic minerals such as hematite and limonite.

Iron ore weak magnetic separation beneficiation process flow

1.Raw ore preparation:

  • The raw iron ore undergoes coarse and fine crushing to a certain particle size for subsequent processing.
  • The ore is dried to remove moisture and improve beneficiation efficiency.

2.Stage grinding:

  • Stage grinding is the process of dividing the raw ore into several different particle sizes for grinding. This can achieve better dissociation of useful minerals and gangue minerals in the ore, providing conditions for subsequent separation.
  • 3.Weak magnetic separation:
  • Weak magnetic separation is a method of selecting strong magnetic minerals using a weak magnetic field. In the weak magnetic separation process, the ore is fed into the magnetic separation equipment, and the magnetic minerals and non-magnetic minerals are separated by the effect of the magnetic field.
  • Common weak magnetic separation equipment includes permanent magnet separators, electromagnetic magnetic separators, etc. These devices generate low magnetic field intensity and are suitable for sorting strong magnetic minerals such as magnetite.

4.Stage Selection:

  • Stage selection is the selection of minerals with different particle sizes based on stage grinding. This can further improve the recovery rate of minerals and the quality of concentrates.

5.Concentrate Collection:

  • After weak magnetic separation and stage separation, the obtained magnetic minerals are collected to form iron ore concentrate.
  • The collected concentrate is dehydrated and dried to obtain high-grade iron ore concentrate containing a certain amount of moisture.

6.Tailings treatment:

  • Tailings are non-magnetic minerals and gangue minerals discarded during weak magnetic separation. The treatment of tailings usually includes steps such as concentration and drying to reduce its impact on the environment.

Technological advantages

  • Efficient Separation:The weak magnetic separation process can effectively separate magnetic and non-magnetic minerals in iron ore, improving the recovery rate of iron ore.
  • Improving concentrate quality:By stage grinding and stage selection, the quality of iron ore concentrate can be improved.
  • Cost saving:The weak magnetic separation process is environmentally friendly compared to other physical separation and chemical treatment methods. During the magnetic separation process, there is no need to add chemicals, which reduces environmental pollution and resource waste, and has a relatively small impact on the environment.
  • Flexibility of Operation:The process operation is flexible, and the weak magnetic separation and stage separation conditions can be adjusted according to the properties and needs of the ore to achieve the best beneficiation effect.
  • The weak magnetic separation and beneficiation process for iron ore uses a weak magnetic field to separate strong magnetic minerals such as magnetite, which has the advantages of efficient separation, improved concentrate quality, cost savings, and operational flexibility, providing effective technical support for the processing and utilization of iron ore.
